About the Pictionary Word List Generator

Pictionary is one of the great party games — simple to learn, infinitely replayable, equally good with five-year-olds or fifty-year-olds. But the physical game box has problems: the cards get lost, the categories get stale, you can't quickly switch to a Christmas theme in December, and the words don't always suit your crowd.

We built this tool to solve those problems. The Pictionary Word List Generator is a free online random word generator built specifically for the drawing-and-guessing game. Pick a category — Easy, Medium, Hard, Christmas, Movies, Funny, Adults, Kids, Animals, Food — and tap Generate. A random word appears, a built-in 60-second timer ticks down, and your round is ready to play.

Every word in our database has been hand-picked by humans, not scraped from a dictionary. Easy words are concrete and drawable. Hard words are creatively challenging but not impossible. Christmas words come from the four main holiday categories (songs, food, characters, traditions). Movie titles span family classics to grown-up favourites. Adult words lean into the absurdities of grown-up life. Kid words are simple enough for a six-year-old to win a round.

Our mission

Our mission is simple: make it easier for people to spend a Friday night drawing badly with the people they love. We don't sell your data, we don't require an account, and we don't gate features behind a premium tier. The whole site is free, forever.

How it's built

The site is built with hand-written HTML, CSS, and a small amount of JavaScript. No big frameworks, no tracking pixels, no third-party analytics beyond a single Google Analytics tag to help us understand which features people use. The word lists live in a single JavaScript file so the page works offline once you've loaded it.
